The Santa Clara Valley Water District will select 15-20 high school students from Santa Clara County to serve on the youth commission.
- The deadline to apply is Sept. 15 each year.
The Youth Stewardship Commission will explore careers in the water industry and foster stewardship and responsibility for our creeks, bays, watersheds and water resources. Student commissioners serve a one-year term.
As a member of the Youth Commission, students become acquainted with the water district’s functions, facilities and careers through presentations, off-site and on-site activities, tours, shadowing experiences and mentoring by current or retired water district employees. The commissioners will have the opportunity to tour water facilities such as treatment plants, reservoirs and a restored wetland habitat. Youth commissioners will help promote youth participation in our efforts to keep creeks clean including our Adopt-A-Creek program and National River Clean-up Day.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District is the primary water resource agency for Santa Clara County, supplying wholesale water, providing flood protection and serving as an environmental steward for clean, safe creeks and healthy ecosystems.
